BONUS PAINTING of the January LONE STAR LIVING bouquet
I love painting this January Bouquet! I painted it several times and decided to film one for you as a mini BONUS class, Hope you enjoy it.
When I sketch out a drawing of the bouquet you can see it is done VERY loosely. I do not consider myself a draftsman as you can see.
My passion is painting the bouquet and so I don;t spend much time drawing it. With that in mind you can see I i just get the basic shapes down as a reference. I use color chalk to sketch so the individual flowers do not get lost and to help with the palette I will choose for painting.
As you can see I paint incredibly loose as well as quick. I thoroughly enjoy painting this way which is called "alla prima".
Alla prima is an Italian phrase that means 'at first attempt'. It refers to a wet-on-wet approach whereby wet paint is applied to previous layers of still-wet paint, often in a single sitting.
This particular painting from sketch to completion was done in 39 minutes.
That can only be accomplished using an expressive and loose style and painting alla prima.
